What would you do if your Accountant said you were earning too much?
Yep, hands down that’s the conversation I had a few weeks ago. Well, she didn’t actually say you’re earning too much but when she asked about my invoices since April this year and I told her what I’d earned already, plus my projections for Q4 2019/Q1 2020 she looked quite concerned.
Then she started talking about company structures, higher tax rates, expenditure, capital investment, planning ahead….
And what did I do – I panicked. I told her I’d think about it on holiday and then filed it in the “too hard” part of my brain!
I subconsciously decided that I’d better not promote my work too much or start looking for any new clients as it might make me change my business structure or end up with me handing over a kidney to the lovely “Tax Man”.
I stopped promoting my Supergroup and started thinking small. I stopped showing up in my Facebook group as often and I shelved some plans.
WTF!!! What was I thinking??
It took me until yesterday to unpick this level of behaviour and realise what had really been going on. See, when you take time out of your business with someone else, to work on it rather than in it, these are the breakthroughs that happen.
I needed to take a large dose of my own medicine and get my sh*t together and plan my growth back into my business, lovingly accept that I can earn as much as I want to and it’ll all be okay.
I can change my structure – especially with a fab accountant who works with her clients to actually get them thinking about this before the poop hits the fan!
I’m forever telling my clients that clarity equals choices, strategy brings sales and planning gives profit and yet, here I was ignoring all my own advice and being a complete div!
So normal service has resumed and thanks to a full day out in beautiful York, business planning and self-learning with an awesome bunch of women I’m back on track and raring to go.
