This little beauty is my Mum. She was (and still is) a total stunner!
She’s also the most hardworking, determined, supportive, intelligent and amazing woman that I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. And I’ve met a few good ones in my time!
I’m eternally grateful for the values & moral compass that she passed on to me. And reflecting back on my life so far, I know that these have held me in good stead through some of the toughest and most depressing moments in my life.
They’ve also helped me enjoy and appreciate all the blessings and good fortune that I’ve had and continue to have around me and those I love.
Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had our moments. I’m pretty sure there was a year in the dim and distant past when she didn’t speak to me for some considerable time – and I’m pretty sure I probably deserved it! I haven’t always been the best human bean!
And whilst I know that we don’t agree on lots of “stuff”, I admire her absolute unwavering faith and surety in her own beliefs.
I watch her, even now, at the chirpy age of 82.
- Doing so much
- Taking on so much
- Giving so much
And yet, she’s not soft or a push over!
Oh no – she’s feisty and gutsy and sharp as anything.
So, if I can live a happy & healthy life and be anywhere near as strong and kind and true as my Mum then that will do me.
She’s equipped us all to look after ourselves well. She instilled an amazing and positive money mindset in all of us, even though we grew up with very little in terms of that kind of wealth. She’s passed on some of the best baking and cooking tips known to woman kind and she used to be a dab hand with a brolly when there are naughty school kids around!
Whether you’ve got an amazing Mum as a role model, a famous figure as someone you admire or a fictional super hero is your Wonder Woman, I wish you strength, character and awesomeness on this International Women’s Day – and in fact, every single day!
Because empowered women rise.
Be one who empowers others and let’s do good in this world.
