This week I was gently reminded by that social media Big Brother that 8 years ago I was probably at one of the lowest points of my life.
I was a few days away from leaving an organisation that I’d spent 8.5 years giving my heart and soul to. But it had taken its toll on my mental and physical health and something had to change.
During those last few months I’d spent a lot of time working on strategy documents and 3-5 year business plans and I was bored. I was bored beyond belief and so disinterested that I’d posted something about it on Facebook.
One of my friends had pointed out that if it wasn’t exciting then it was the wrong strategy.
But she was also wrong.
It wasn’t the wrong strategy for them. It was the fact that I was not in love with it and it was no longer my dream or passion.
It got me thinking about all the work that I’m now so fortunate to do with women in business. Women who are truly passionate about their business dream and their vision for their lives, but perhaps just don’t know how to bring a bit more order or purpose to it.
Women who are absolutely lit up by the plans they want to develop for their business over the next few years into the amazing and awesome thing that they want it to be but sometimes feel overwhelmed or “stuck” in a certain bit.
Strategy and planning are not boring when you are following your dream.
Strategy and planning are not scary when you take it steady and break it down.
Whilst I would never go back to that organisation (I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have me anyway!!) the experience I gained over that 8.5 years was absolutely invaluable for how I work in my own business today and how I am able to help and support other women to be truly stepping into their CEO shoes and make a difference.
Sometimes we just need to tap back into our dreams and passions as a starting point, to get really fired up and ready to take action. Other times it’s about being totally honest with ourselves and facing our fears, pulling our finger out and getting sh*t done.
Whatever it is, you can be supported. You don’t need to feel alone in your business or that you’re constantly going round in circles. Or like me, 8 years ago, when I had no idea what I was going to do or where I was going to go after I walked out of those office doors and said goodbye to the “organisational” life.

Moral of this story.
Doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you love it! Everything can be exciting when you are truly following your heart.
When you love your business, when you tap into your dream and really feel it, then you can make it happen. I did!
More about what did happen when I walked out of the doors next time…
