If January was all about the power of planning, then February is going to be having the discipline and motivation to put all that planning into action!
Are you struggling yet?

Discipline ☹ – the very word can conjure up all sorts of feelings for so many people. It’s a word that’s often linked to punishment and obedience in a negative context.

And so, whether that’s being on the harsh end of “discipline” at school or home or even in the workplace where we still talk about “disciplinary hearings” then this little word all by itself can stir really negative emotions for many of us.

So how might we reframe that word and make it fit for our own purposes to help us achieve our goals and plans?

Well, for a start we can think about words –

I prefer self-discipline to simply discipline as it shows I’m in control – not something that’s happening to me but something I choose to actively pursue

When you choose a different word or start to do some word association it can really help to reframe what would otherwise be a turn off for us – so to be disciplined or have self-discipline is the same as:

  • to be committed,
  • to be purposeful,
  • to be intentional

HOW does it make you feel when you use it those words?

Is that a better feeling?

The theme of this month for me is all about motivation, self-discipline and getting sh*t done so I’d love to hear what your thoughts are about the words we use and the actions we take. And I’m going to be exploring the difference between the two as we get into February.

Go get ‘em tiger – you can make it happen!
